NHS England (NHSE) apprenticeships follow the standard recruitment process with the following exceptions:
Salary
Candidates on a standard NHSE apprenticeship will receive a percentage of the top of the band they are being recruited into. The percentage of the band given will be dependant on length of the apprenticeship, the figures are displayed below:
- Up to 1 Year: 75% of the top of the band
- Up to 2 years: 70% of the top of the band
- Up to 3 years: 65% of the top of the band
- Over 3 years: 60% of the top of the band
If you are recruiting for an apprentice, please calculate and enter the salary on Trac using the following formula: for example, if you are recruiting an apprentice into a Band 2 role.
Top of a Band 2 = £19,337
- > 3 Years = 0.60 x 19,337= £11,602.20
- 3 Years = 0.65 x 19,337= £12,569.05
- 2 Years = 0.70 x 19,337= £13,535.90
- 1 Year = 0.75 x 19,337= £14,502.75
Therefore, the salary for a 1-year Band 2 apprenticeship would be £14,502.
This will need to be reflected on the ‘Salary Range’ field when requesting a vacancy and the offer table when offering a candidate a position.
Contract Type
Apprenticeship contracts will be fixed term for the duration of the apprenticeship.
New apprentices should only be placed on a permanent contract if this has been agreed with the Head of Service, Contact HR and Organisational Development and the Apprenticeship Lead.
This will need to be reflected on the ‘Contract Type’ field when requesting a vacancy and the offer table when offering a candidate a position.
