A Health Professional Alert Notice (HPAN) is the process of notifying NHS bodies, or other organisations providing services to NHS bodies, about registered Health Professionals whose performance or conduct could pose a significant risk of harm to patients, staff or the public.

HPANs are usually used whilst the regulator is considering the concerns and provides an additional safeguard during the pre-employment checking process.

HR Shared Services (HRSS) will check for any current alert notices as part of the Professional Registration check.

Information on how to check whether the person has been the subject of an HPAN and the process to raise a HPAN can be found on the NHS Resolution website.
