If you log into Electronic Staff Record (ESR) using username and password, you can reset your own password. Please access the ESR portal, at the page where you would normally input your username and password, click the Forgotten/Request Username/Password/Unlock account link. You will need the following information.

  • Email: this will be your @nhsbsa.nhs.uk email

  • Date of Birth:

  • ESR username: for example: 914ASMITH01


If you have a smartcard, you are unable to unlock/reset your password. This must be actioned by HR Shared Services (HRSS), please email the HRSS Query team with your ESR username to make this request.
