When a candidate has previously been employed by an NHS organisation and they are starting employment with a new NHS organisation, a Pre-Inter Authority Transfer (Pre-IAT) must be performed through the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).

The Pre-IAT is an electronic process initiated in ESR by the HR Shared Services (HRSS) Recruitment team before issuing an offer letter to the successful candidate. It is used to confirm the candidate's salary information held in ESR from their previous employment. HRSS can use this information to confirm the pay-step point the candidate is currently on and increment date where required; this replaces the need for a payslip to be provided.

A pre-IAT is performed for all of a candidate's previous service, however the HRSS Recruitment team only require the most recent employment to confirm the pay-step point.

To be able to run the pre-IAT you must have the candidates National Insurance (NI) number. If you do not have the NI number, you should request this from the candidate via Trac comms.
