Yes, please see the different examples below for your candidate:
External candidate
Offering a candidate a Pay-Step Point higher than the bottom of the band will require approval from your Head of Service prior to the Offer being made.
The approval will need to be provided to HR Shared Services (HRSS) to enable the Offer to be progressed.
Internal candidate
Where a candidates new role is the same pay step as their current role, they would stay on the same pay-step point.
If the candidates new role is a pay grade higher than their current role, they would move to the bottom of the new pay band unless this would result in a decrease in salary in which case, they would move to first pay-step point within that band that is above their current salary.
Internal candidate taking a demotion
If the candidate is taking a demotion from their current role, you will require approval from your Head of Service prior to the Offer being made.
HRSS will not accept copies of the employee’s most recent payslip as justification to appoint above the bottom of the band.
Candidate currently working within another NHS organisation
Where a candidate is currently employed by another NHS organisation and they are receiving a salary above the bottom of the band, approval is not required.
This will be confirmed through an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) in the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) ran by HRSS.
